Sounds Like Silence (John Cage – 4'33'' – Silence Today / 1912 – 1952 – 2012)

On the occasion of John Cage's 100th anniversary and the 60th anniversary of the premiere of his famous "silent piece" HMKV shows 42 (mostly contemporary) references to 4'33'' from the fields of art and music as well as works that deal with general questions of e.g. perception of silence or sound ecology.

Suzanne Treister: HEXEN 2.0

HEXEN 2.0 delves into the histories of scientific research behind government programmes of mass control, investigating parallel histories of countercultural and grass roots movements. HEXEN 2.0 charts the coming together of diverse scientific and social sciences through the development of cybernetics, the history of the internet, the rise of Web 2.0 and mass intelligence gathering, and the implications for the future of new systems of societal manipulation towards a control society.

Kerstin Ergenzinger: Red Noise

Kerstin Ergenzinger (*1975) received in 2011 the scholarship for woman media artists by the Ministry for Families, Children, Youth, Culture and Sports of North Rhine-Westphalia, which is supervised by the HMKV. From 28th January until 19th February, 2012, the Cologne based artist will be presenting her work Red Noise on the 2nd floor of the Dortmunder U – Centre for Art and Creativity which was developed during the scholarship.
