PREVIEW: Afro-Tech and the Future of Re-Invention

Dortmunder U | 3rd Floor | 10/21/2017 - 02/11/2018

Opening:  Friday, 20 Oktober 2017

This exhibition establishes a connection between Afro-Futurism and alternative technological energies and imaginations. The counter-narratives and speculations formulated in artist works are related to real inventions from the maker culture of various African countries. The result is a double defamiliarization: Whereas the artistic works create decidedly African sci-fi narratives, the real inventions provide evidence of a technological development that has already begun. The exhibition presents Africa as a continent of technological innovation.

An exhibition by HMKV (Hartware MedienKunstVerein)
in cooperation with Interkultur Ruhr - a project by Regionalverband Ruhr (RVR), and Africa Positive e.V.
