Talk | Henning Lohner

In 1992 film director, composer and video artist Henning Lohner directed One11 and 103, John Cage’s only film. He also portrayed the composer in the film The Revenge of the Dead Indians (1993). Talking to Inke Arns, he will reminisce his encounters with Cage.

FILM | ONE11 and 103

The only feature film by John Cage, One11 and 103 is based on the effects of light in an empty room. Directed by Henning Lohner, it was completed shortly before the composer’s death in 1992. Dir. Henning Lohner, Germany 1992, 94 min.

Sounds Like Silence (John Cage – 4'33'' – Silence Today / 1912 – 1952 – 2012)

On the occasion of John Cage's 100th anniversary and the 60th anniversary of the premiere of his famous "silent piece" HMKV shows 42 (mostly contemporary) references to 4'33'' from the fields of art and music as well as works that deal with general questions of e.g. perception of silence or sound ecology.

Sounds Like Silence | Paper Chase

During the exhibition, families with children can pick up a paper chase flyer from the main desk which lets our younger visitors discover the artists and their works in the exhibition in a playful manner.

Dave Allen: Silent Recording, Hansa Studios Berlin

The Lautsprecher gallery hosts a programme of sound art devised by the Museum Ostwall (MO), which links the exhibitions FLUXUS – Art for All! by the MO and Sounds Like Silence by the HMKV. For Silent Recording, Hansa Studios Berlin (2001) Dave Allen captured the silence in the German studio where David Bowie recorded his seminal albums Heroes and Low in 1976 and 1977 respectively.
