Breathe – Pranayama Yoga Class with Lioba Sombetzki

Dortmunder U | Level 3

In the context of the exhibition Pranayama Typhoon Soft Parts Wing Flap Fin by the British artist Fiona Banner aka The Vanity Press, the HMKV offers a yoga evening with teacher Lioba Sombetzki as part of the "Little Friday".

"Pranayama" is part of the eight-limbed yoga path (alongside asana (physical exercises), meditation and much more). Often pranayama is practised in the form of breathing exercises to support and extend the physical practice. After a short exhibition introduction and welcome, we first learn more about the term, its origin and the tradition behind it. In various body and breathing exercises, we try out the centuries-old techniques together.
The evening has a deliberate workshop character. All levels of prior knowledge, including beginners, are welcome. We would like to point out that there is no possibility to change on site, so it is recommended to come in yoga clothes.

Lioba is a queer yoga teacher (500h CYA Hatha Vinyasa and Yin Yoga), an artist and in training to become a children's yoga therapist. She is in love with meditation, pranayama and the miracle of the body and enjoys working creatively and holistically with people. There is never a lack of humour, curiosity and mindfulness in her classes and artistic work.
