Refresh! First International Conference on the Histories of Media Art, Science and Technology

Dortmund | Phoenix Halle

Recognizing the increasing significance of media art for our culture, this Conference on the Histories of Media Art will discuss for the first time the history of media art within the interdisciplinary and intercultural contexts of the histories of art. Banff New Media Institute, the Database for Virtual Art, Leonardo/ISAST and UNESCO DigiArts are collaborating to produce the first international art history conference covering art and new media, art and technology, art-science interaction, and the history of media as pertinent to contemporary art.

From September 29 until October 1, 2005, the Refresh! Conference will be streamed live in the PHOENIX Halle in Dortmund, as part of the accompanying program of the ongoing exhibition „On Disappearance: Loss of World and Escaping from the World“ by the Hartware MedienKunstVerein (HMKV), curated by Inke Arns and Ute Vorkoeper. Daily from 4:30 p.m. until approximately 2 a.m. there will be lectures (in English) by Sara Diamond, Oliver Grau, Andreas Broeckmann, Barbara Stafford, Linda Henderson, Peter Weibel and many more internationally acclaimed artists, curators and art historians.

Refresh! Live-Internet-Broadcast is an initiative of transmediale Berlin in cooperation with Hartware Medienkunstverein Dortmund, Tesla Berlin and Zentrum fuer Kunst und Medientechnologie (ZKM) Karlsruhe.
